According to the official report, the government expends more than 300 thousand dollars to take care of a juvenile delinquent, and the Ministry of Education needs to spend more than 60 thousands to shelter a dropout. The research conducted by Vandelbilt University in the U.S. indicates that the social cost spent on a dropout would be around one million and 300 thousand US dollars (about 16 million NT dollars). From the view of the benefits for teenagers, crime prevention, or governmental expenditure, the better job the Bureau of Education does, the less burden of the Ministry of Justice would have. Therefore, the Association has combined the resources and power from governmental institutions, non-governmental organizations, and the corporate world, and help these kids with kindness and understanding with the belief of “no dropouts should be given up” in mind. We have created a warm and inclusive environment for kids and teenagers, and hope to explore the inner beauty and strength of these kids with our passion and help all of them to realize indefinite possibilities in life.
Founded in 9th January 2005, Tainan City’s Youth Education & Development Association is a non-profit charity organization, connected to the Bureau of Education, Department of Social Welfare and the elites who care about youth education and put in all efforts to promote our convictions about education and elevate the quality of education. Our goals are stated as the following: to advise kids and teenagers in exploring the fun and meaning of learning and adapting to school life, so as to achieve the health and harmony of the society as a whole.
Led by chairman Shi Jun-jun, the Association has prospered continually from the beginning, thus Mr. Shi continued to be the second chairman. The team of directors and supervisors not only has principals, Parents’ Committee and the elites of the society, but includes lawyers and priests to assist in giving professional support and care to dropouts and less privileged teenagers as well.
Services
Schoolwork counseling: We provide dropouts and less privileged kids with flexible and diverse teaching lessons, and help them complete basic education successfully.
Psychological counseling: We help students build positive and optimistic attitudes toward life with the support of the philosophy that everyone has his/her strengths.
Employment training: We not merely offer the kids counseling and training regarding occupational skills and work ethics, but strive for internship opportunities and negotiate internship conditions with lots of companies for the teenagers so they will be well prepared to enter the job market in future.
Rebuilding their confidence and calming their mind:
We help restore the confidence of those who were hurt or mistreated in the past.
Family counseling: We help families with our care and support and educate some parents how to exert parental skills in hopes of decreasing parental conflicts and narrowing generational gaps. We hope that every family can be a self-sufficient system.
Future Vision
We are striving to put together the resources and potential of official agencies, such as the Bureau of Education, the Department of Social Welfare, the social elite and the people who care about our education, in order to elevate the current standard of our education and promote the development, cultivating, counseling and sheltering for kids. We believe that these teenagers can gradually adapt to school and the world through our counseling and can become physically and mentally healthy adults who can contribute to the society in a positive way. We help every person receive opportunities and explore indefinite possibilities of their own with our understanding and counseling. Let’s realize the philosophy that everyone has his/her strengths.
